Life after a traumatic car accident

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

Injuries from accidents can have devastating impact on every facet of a person's life. John* was young, fit, healthy and had a great job as a Solar Technician, until a car accident in 2018 left him in daily agonising pain.

John wanted to share his journey, in the hope that it might inspire others who are suffering from an accident or injury. John's message is not to give up hope, and to keep trying different healing modalities that resonate - it may be the one that gets things back on track.

The accident

John experienced a horrific car accident in 2018, which left him in daily agonising pain and nerve and spinal damage. The impact from the car collision to the back of his van, sent heavy utility boxes in the back, smashing forward into John's car seat. The impact of the boxes caused significant damage to John's upper spine.

Post accident trauma

John had surgery in Jan 2019 to remove a disc and complete a fusion on C5 and C6 in his neck, however the pain in his arms and neck came back. He then had 3 CT guided cortisone injections into his neck. The pain progressively got worse over the next 2 years.

John was experiencing debilitating pain in his neck, arms and hands daily and was unable to return to work from the pain. The constant ache also made it difficult for John to sleep. He needed a CPAP machine to help sleep, however there were nights when the pain was so severe that it kept him up all night. This caused inconsistency in his sleep patterns, so he would struggle to wake up most days, no matter how much sleep he had, and felt 'wiped-out' after seemingly low-strenuous daily tasks, like stacking the dishwasher. Lifting things (even pulling bins, lifting shopping bags or tying his shoelace) would send pain shooting down his arm and feeling pins and needles. Sleeping the wrong way and even sneezing and coughing would aggravate the pain – basic day to day activities were challenging.

All this, including the pain medication he was taking, took a heavy toll on John's mental and emotional health.

The healing journey

John came to see me two months ago in July 2022. He was on strong anti-inflammatory medication Celebrix and Setraline, which created severe mood swings and irritability. This was having a negative impact on his family relationships. The accident had taken away his ability to work and also his ability to function well in his family.

John's goal was to wake up feeling pain-free, refreshed, energised and motivated to return to work again. John wanted to be able to keep up with his energetic and athletic 5 year old son. He wanted to be able to help around the house without feeling completely 'wiped-out' and needing a nap afterwards. He wanted to be able to increase his range of movement in his neck, be able to lift objects, bend to tie his shoelace and actually have a good night sleep.

Releasing stress from trauma: Over the past 2 months, John and I have worked on releasing the stress stored in the body, relating to the accident but also connected to the stress and frustration felt when John was unable to sleep. We used a powerful Postural Stress Release technique to gently move the stress from John's body.

Outcome: John is now consistently sleeping through the night, waking up energised, fresh and with a clear mind, ready to start the day.

Nutrition to increase energy levels: Using muscle testing to confirm John's exact needs, John and I investigated his nutritional needs to achieve his goal. We were able to determine exactly what his body needed, including a range of vitamin and mineral supplements and the dosage needed, which assisted with reducing his inflammation, boosting John's immune system, increase and sustain John's energy, help with muscle pain and assist with his insomnia and depression, balance his mood and reduce irritability and nervousness.

Outcome: With his new found energy, John has just started work again helping a Carpenter! He is now able to sustain his energy levels from a 9am start at work, and finish at 5.30pm without feeling 'wiped-out'. John is easing back into a full work week, but is thrilled to be back in the work force, 2 days per week.

Decreasing pain and increasing mobility: John's overall stiffness, pain and range of movement had improved significantly from better rest and energy levels. However, there were still a deep aching pain in John's right hand shoulder and stiffness in his neck which at rest, was 8/10 pain level. When aggravated by stretching or pressing on the pain site, the pain level would increase to 10/10.

John's range of neck rotation was also limited when looking to the right. In John's most recent session today, we worked on the physical pain he was experiencing. Using a Shoulder Regional Muscle Protocol, we balanced the muscles surrounding the pain site using powerful acupressure points, neuro-vascular points, neuro-lymphatic points and others. Each strengthened the muscles, specifically the right subclavius muscle which was the location of the pain site.

Outcome: John noticed an immediate dissipation of the pain in his right shoulder after balancing the right subclavius muscle. The overwhelming ongoing pain experienced in the past week, had gone, completely. There was no residual ache. John rated his pain level post session as 0/10. The tension and pain down his neck had also disappeared leaving a feeling of "lightness, like a cloud" through his entire right hand side of the body.

Thank you John for sharing your incredible and inspiring story, I am honoured to support you in your healing journey.
